Say 'I Do' to 2020 Wedding Trends

In 2020 there’s no need to stick to the age old custom of a big white wedding and a wild hen party – the new decade may spell the fizzling out of some traditions, but it also ushers in exciting new trends to fall in love with.

From statement veils to sustainable ceremonies, 2020 is all about individuality and tailoring your big day to make it your own. Heather, our wedding planner at Laura Ashley Hotel The Belsfield, has shared the top trends of 2020 to consider for your wedding.

1. Zen do over hen do

It’s out with the clubbing and butlers in the buff, and in with the zen do – a relaxing retreat with friends to offset the pre-wedding stress and unwind before the big day. A zen do is the perfect celebration for those who prefer country getaways, yoga retreats and spa trips over alcohol-soaked weekends.

2. Conscious ceremonies

Eco-friendly celebrations are expected to be all the rage in 2020, and while Princess Eugenie led the way with her sustainable wedding, it doesn’t require a royal budget. You can make your dream wedding a green wedding with a few little tweaks, from sending e-invites to natural decorations. We expect to see fresh ideas for eco-friendly favours, such as flower seeds for guests to plant at home or mini potted plants.

3. Ditch the dress

A bride needs to feel her best on her wedding day, so if the traditional white dress isn’t for you why not go off-piste? More brides are incorporating their style into their wedding dress, whether this is a pop of colour or a floral design.

A trend which is expected to continue into 2020 is having not one, but two, wedding outfits – many brides wish to go traditional for the ceremony and change into a more party-appropriate outfit for the reception, such as a metallic jumpsuit or white trouser suit.

4. Spice up your veil

The veil is no longer simply a wedding accessory, but an opportunity to show your personality and individuality. From embroidery of the wedding date, a quote or initials on the veil to an extravagant flower crown, there are several ways to make it your own. Some brides are dropping the veil entirely and opting for a statement headband or minimalist hairstyle.

5. Buddymoons

We’ve seen minimoons, maximoons and babymoons… but buddymoons? This new trend involves newlyweds taking their nearest and dearest friends away with them to carry on the party after tying the knot. This trend isn’t going to be for everyone, but it was good enough for Jennifer Aniston.

Surrounded by six acres of landscaped gardens, Laura Ashley The Belsfield makes for a picture-perfect wedding location. From the moment guests enter The Belsfield’s striking all-glass reception with a spectacular view of Lake Windermere, to when they sit down to enjoy a menu created by the hotel’s 2AA Rosette award kitchen, they will be swept away by the attention to detail.
